Girl vs. Boy

Gertrude to the Rescue

Posted by: icagirl on: October 26, 2007

I spent this morning miserable.  Last night, Boy and I went to dinner with Friendofgirl.  It was a good time and there was a lot to be said (by Friendofgirl and myself).  Friendofgirl has recently come back from living in Germany for the summer and a trip to Hawaii.  She had stories; some were funny, some were gross, all were entertaining.  My stories of work bored both her and Boy.  Well, after dinner, we walked around the mall and then headed home.  Whilst on the train, I became very ill.  At home, I went immediately to sleep – I think it took me five minutes to go to sleep.  I woke up at 9:00 a.m.  (I was supposed to be at work at 8:30 a.m.)  I called my boss, explained the situation, and she was fine with me coming in at 10:00 since I have to stay late today anyway.  But, like I said, I spent the morning miserable.  I felt terrible.

So, when Gerti e-mailed me, I actually thought about refusing her request to go shopping on Market.  However, reasoning that the sunshine could only be good for me, I met her outside to shop for eyeglasses.  We were off to Lenscrafters soon enough, chatting the entire way about her need for glasses, including – the time she accidentally folded her new glasses inside a dictionary for her parents to find months later and the time she smashed her glasses during a camping trip.  Hilarity ensued as she tried on many different glasses.  Some frames were so tragically hip she looked as if she was about to start singing pop songs and brandishing an American flag.  Alas, we did find one pair of absolutely stunning frames.  They are awesome, with just the right amount of funk for Gerti.

So, feeling refreshed and happier, I returned to work.  As Gerti is not one to spend money without doing the proper research, Gerti and I will continue our search for the perfect frames for her face and personality tomorrow during lunch time.  We also have planned to snag free pizza from the office appreciation party before going to a movie.  So, I’ll have more tales of Gerti tomorrow.  However, since she will probably be reading this post, I have to say – Gerti stinks because she is leaving me to move to Oregon!!!  It had to be said.

So you are feeling better then?

Yes, but Gerti is a LOSER!!!! As she is reading this, she knows why – putting me in an awkward situation at work.

I still like her.

You are only saying that because you know she is reading it…

She knows it.

I’m sorry that you felt ill! I had no idea! I hope it wasn’t from dinner!!

It was from dinner, but it’s okay. I should have known better. We still haven’t found the perfect perfect perfect glasses for Gerti yet, though. Bummer.
