Girl vs. Boy

ps3.jpgSo I’m breaking down and getting a PlayStation 3 (PS3) console – the very console I thought I’d never have. Well, now I’m getting it. There’s a few reasons why:

  • I’ve been getting into video games more. I used to be really big into video games when I was younger (aren’t most kids?) and they even drove me to become an aspiring 3D artist/animator. However, throughout my early and mid 20’s I started to not care as much. Now, however, I think I’m getting the gaming itch back, especially as I have been less concentrated on being a workaholic.
  • I’ve recently been given a Best Buy gift certificate. Unlike real money, gift certificates pretty much ensure a purchase. But what am I to buy? I wasn’t sure so I thought I’d put it towards something expensive and cool. What would that be? Looks like a PS3.
  • There are lots of games. Since the PS3 is (mostly) backwards compatible, there will be a large selection of PS1 and PS2 games to select from along side of the new spiffy PS3 games.
  • Sony is currently “losing” the console wars so it might come out with something exciting and new to help it get back in the race. Home Maybe?
  • Blu-ray. I figured it wouldn’t hurt to get with the times and upgrade the DVD player to a new digital format (Blu-ray or HD DVD)… yes, even though I did JUST buy a new normal DVD player to replace the old one – which I still haven’t hooked up, by the way.
  • LittleBigPlanet. This is one PS3 title that I can’t wait to get my grubby little hands on.
  • I could have gotten an XBox 360, but I have a close friend who already has one, and I will on occasion will stop by his place and play that with him after work. (And we already have a Nintendo Wii)

One problem with the PlayStation, however, is that I don’t think Girl is up for it. For one, it means more time Boy spends with the TV and less time with Girl. The PlayStation also has a lot more violent games, something Girl is not keen on. In the end, though, I think it will be ok. I just need to find games that both I and Girl can play together – or at least games that aren’t boring to watch if the other is playing.

On a side note, here are two you tube videos I find amusing (one in response to the other).

Three Ps3s – this guy is a joke, and there are parodies of this all over the place:

You should get one, it’s really come into its own now that it has been out awhile to built up a good game library and for third parties to get their programming up to muster.

Done and done. Girl wasn’t happy at first – still isn’t but after getting Super Rub-a-Dub, she was less upset.
