Girl’s Friday… Thus far…

Posted by: icagirl on: April 11, 2008

So, it’s Friday and thus far, Fabulous!!!!  Every Friday, my buddy Al brings in some sort of breakfasty food – today it was bagels – My absolute favorite.  He knows this, so he’ll rotate the bagels in whenever he can but it’s difficult because everyone else really likes the sugary breakfast stuff better (except for me).

I was happy as can be when I saw that it was, in fact, bagel day.  Al came running out of his office, totally excited about the bagels as well – more for reasons that he had purchased 4 of his favorite bagels and wanted me to take one… Hmmm… Peppercorn Potato Bagel?  Not sounding as good as my normal plain bagel.  I was excited about the guaranteed yumminess of my regular bagel.  But, he was so cutely excited about it, I decided to humor him.

Now, back at my cubicle, this bagel is the most amazing bagel ever – ever.  It is spicy and light and all things wonderful – best part, it needs no butter or cream cheese or anything.  It’s just by-itself wonderful.  Okay, must go back to enjoying my breakfast…

And then… My sort-of-boss Lei called to say that the two o-clock meeting involving myself and three of my not-really-bosses-but-those-who-sort-of-are-sometimes has been moved to… immediately.  I grab my notebook and my pile of papers, each of which represent a question I have.  After we all arrive at the table, everyone looks at me.  Um… “Go!” I shout, way perkier than I needed to be, especially when two out of three people staring at me is horribly sick, and Dan (the only non-ill-stricken person besides me) busts out laughing (well, he would have if he ever busted out laughing, but he has braces that make him self-conscious about speaking at all, and so he did a cover-his-mouth hawking kind of thing which was funny in itself).  Still, no one had anything to say.  It was back to me.  So, I started in with all my issues and they were solved systematically.  With the two people in charge sick, there was no being nice and fluffy and taking time to say things nicely – there was just a ‘fix-it-now’ mentality, which I really enjoyed.  My issues were quickly solved and everyone was happy.  Dan waited until everyone stood up before ringing in with an issue of his own.  I didn’t comment and let the others handle it.  Even though I knew what happened and the area of his confusion, I had tried (and failed) to explain it to him yesterday…

Well, as far as meetings go, it wasn’t too bad.  Everyone liked my strange green-and-blue-striped sweater, so I’m counting it as a success!
