Girl vs. Boy

Sleepless Quirks

The other night, I was watching Sleepless in Seattle.  That movie used to be my sister’s absolute favorite movie of all time (it has since then been knocked off the top spot by Disney’s Beauty and the Beast).  I found it while cleaning this past weekend (It’s an old VHS and therefore, had been stored), and found I was really in the mood to watch it.

While watching Rosie O’Donnell (back when she was really good – like League of Their Own Rosie without Madonna) and Meg Ryan (whose hair is so pretty in every scene in the movie) chit chat over the meeting table at work, another co-worker of theirs is begging to do an article about the “Soup Guy” – apparently, the guy is ridiculously mean but the soup is amazing.  I laughed so hard at this quaint mention of Seinfeld’s Soup Nazi.  This further proves how awesome Sleepless is, as it has what used to be a NYC-insider joke cinched into this wonderful bit of fun acting from Rosie and Meg – two years before Seinfeld ever mentioned it.  It was classic!

I started listening to all the other sidebar comments in the movie, and was pleasantly surprised by how witty and clever the “background” characters were written.  For a romantic comedy as it was, the layering of jokes is really well done and it made me love this precious movie so much more.
