From Fabulous to Friday

Posted by: icagirl on: June 13, 2008

Well, everyone was overwhelmed with yesterday’s fabulous ensemble, so I’m sure they will be equally underwhelmed today (back to my normal, everyday lackluster ensemble) – anyways… It’s Friday and slightly windy outside this morning – plus I was in the city ten minutes before my building would open – so I decided to treat myself…  Normally, I make my own tea in the morning as it saves money and I only drink green tea, nothing in it, so why pay for that?  Well, it’s Friday and I feel like splurging!  Today’s tea is Genmai Cha Tea, which I’ll be honest, smells much like popcorn (too hot to drink yet).  I’m looking forward to it.

I thought I was going slightly crazy, but as it turns out the description for Genmai Cha Tea is:

Green tea from Japan that is the ’snap, crackle, pop’ of teas. Genmai Cha is an exotic Japanese recipe that combines popped rice and popcorn with tender and delicate green tea leaves.

So its made with rice krispies?

Typically not a huge green tea drinker I absolutely love Genmaicha! The description you have is a little different than what I know Genmaicha to be. While it is green tea, brown rice is added during the drying process. Due to the heat some of the rice “pops” like popcorn giving Genmaicha both a great visual appearance as well as a roasted/nutty/popcorn flavor. There’s a write-up on my blog about Genmaicha.

Did you enjoy it?

Hmm… Difficult question. I did enjoy it, but I probably would never order it again – there are many other teas I like better.
