Girl vs. Boy

The Classic Halloween Parade

Posted by: icagirl on: October 31, 2008

So, I’m not normally that into Halloween.  Well, not anymore.  I moved out of my parents house and my Mom was no longer around to make costumes for me – I used to have this huge ideas which my Mother would consider and then create.  I always looked awesome, from the time I was Cookie Monster at age 7, my Mom made me super-hip, so that when I moved out, Halloween costumes just weren’t as cool.

This year, though, I decided I needed to dress up.  Why?  For work, actually.  My department has been through a rough year, a tough few months, and some stressful last few weeks.  We were in need of some fun.  However, my department is not full of easily motivated people.  My idea would have to be simple and not require much actual participation.  So, therefore, I went to the store and bought four pairs of cat ears and out doggie mask.  I told them all that they were to be cats and I was going to be a dog.  I received no negative responses.  Everyone agreed to wear black to suit the cat ears.

To my surprise, today was really fun.  The girls actually got together and painted whiskers on each others’ faces before our big photo op!  And, I am still in shock that they stood to get their picture taken – two of them are extremely camera shy and usually refuse pictures.  Then, everyone inspected the pumpkins submitted for the decorate-a-pumpkin contest.  Then, we all voted (and I don’t think any of them voted for my pumpkin but oh well).

Then, a much needed break from being cats and dog to do some work and have lunch.  To my surprise, the girls then agreed to be part of the parade!  Yeah, I didn’t know there’d be a parade, we all felt like we were zapped back to elementary school.  Of course, instead of parents taking pictures, there were visitors snapping pictures and even some people taking video – it makes me happy that my costume covered my face in the case these videos end up on some random site, which I’m sure they will.

All in all, good day department-wise and we may do this again next year, with cooler costumes (and a better pumpkin).

Hi! I just found the link to your blog again…I changed computers and sort of lost everything in the transition. Bravo on getting the team together! =)

I know! It was SUPER fun!! And we’ve been good (as a team) for a while. There was a recent hire and maybe another hire around the corner, so we’ll see if it continues/destroys the happiness.

Woohoo! That’s definitely great news! I think since the black cloud of negativity departed, things could only have improved…how’s the crazy one?

Crazier than ever! She’s making the entire department an unhappy place to exist…
